Chinese New Year,Lunar New Year is the most important festival among of the Traditional Chinese Holidays. Because it is based on the Lunisolar Chinese Calendar and that's the reason called "Lunar New Year". The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first monthin the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th of the first month; the last day of the festival (15th) is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year's Eve is known as a family reunion day.
The Chinese Community of the Greater Washington Metropolitan area is going to celebrate the "Chinese Lunar New Year" in Washington, DC Chinatown on H & I Streets, NW, between 6th and 8th Streets from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year will be the year 4708, the year of the TIGER which begins on February 14, 2010 and ends on February 2, 2011.In Chinese legend, people born in the year of the TIGER are often sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy with fearless and fiery fighter. They are physically powerful, gracious, independent and brave, they are extremely bold animals. However, they are friendly and loving but selfish and short tempered. Tigers are also instilled with a good dose of courage. As a result, they are capable and able to achieve great goals. This TIGER year will bring stability and growth where power and brave pays off. Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) is very proud to sponsor this event. The festival includes folk dances, musical bands from various genres, local high school, cultural exhibition and a parade. The popular lion and dragon dances, as well as a five-story high firecracker that will be lit at 3:45 p.m. will also be featured in the program. Please bring your friends and family to join us for this exciting and joyful event which routinely attracts more than 30,000 patrons/tourists.
